The author, Mary Ward, asked me to design the cover for her book, Letters Home, chronicling her son’s deployment during the Iraq War. The book weaves together a compelling series of letters between mother and son and highlights the struggles experienced by both. I extracted elements found in their correspondence for the cover design.

I designed this book to coincide with the conclusion of the Duke Forward Campaign at Duke. It strings together a series of wonderful moments caught on camera by Duke University Photography photographers including Chris Hildreth, Les Todd, Jared Lazarus, Megan Mendenhall, and Bill Snead. The photo collection is illuminated by an amusing and heart-warming text by Scott Huler. Edited by David Jarmul. Printed in the US. Hardcover, 9.5” x 12.5”, 264 pages.

This book celebrates the twenty-five year relationship between Duke and the American Dance Festival. The section dividers highlight details from the unique posters developed each year to advertise the festival events. The front and back cover art doubled as the poster for the anniversary year American Dance Festival.

Written by Minnie Glymph and featuring custom photography by Duke photographers led by Chris Hildreth and Les Todd, Duke Chapel Illuminated tells the unique story of the Duke University Chapel highlighting it’s history, music, carvings, windows, and role in the Durham community. The writer, photographers, and I worked for a full year putting this piece together in both hard and soft cover editions. In the end, we were gratified to know that our process had uncovered stories and details - to date undocumented - which might have been lost otherwise.
